Manufacturing On The Rise

February shows annual increase of 4.9%

Total manufacturing output increased by 4.9 per cent in February 2011 compared to the same month a year ago. Output increased in eight of the 13 sub-sectors and fell in five sub-sectors. The largest contributors to the increase were the transport equipment industries which increased by 13.5 per cent, the machinery and equipment industries which increased by 12.9 per cent and the basic metals and metal products industries which increased by
9.3 per cent. The largest negative contribution to overall output was a decrease of 5.8 per cent in the other manufacturing industries.

Between January and February, manufacturing output was flat. Output increased in four of the 13 sub-sectors and fell in nine sub-sectors. The largest increases seen were increases of 1.2 per cent in the transport equipment industries and 1.3 per cent in the machinery and equipment industries. The largest offsetting negative contributions to overall output were decreases of 4.5 per cent in the other manufacturing industries and 0.7 per cent in the chemicals and man made fibres industries.
